Tanzania launches consultancy tender for the 49.5 MW Malagarasi hydropower project

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has applied for financing from the African Development Bank toward the cost of Malagarasi Hydropower Project and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this loan to payments under the contract for Consultancy Services for Design Review, preparation of Bidding Documents and Construction Supervision, of the 49.5 MW Malagarasi Hydropower Plant and associated Transmission & Distribution lines in Kigoma region in western Tanzania.

The services included under this project are:

  • Design Review and preparation of bidding documents;
  • Support the Client in the procurement of Contractors for plant design, supply, and installation of works; and
  • Construction supervision of works comprising:
    • 49.5 MW Malagarasi hydropower plant;
    • 132 kV evacuation transmission line, 54 km long, from Malagarasi hydropower site to Kidahwe 400/132/33 kV substation; and
    • distribution network expansion and rural electrification consisting of medium voltage lines (40 km) and low voltage reticulations (65 km) to increase the 33 kV dispatch capacity from the Kidahwe substation as well as serve communities living within the neighborhood of the generation facility and the transmission line route.

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.). Consultants may constitute joint-ventures to enhance their chances of qualification.

The deadline for the submission of documents to participate in the tender is on February 26, 2021.
