Sif Holding has signed a contract to fabricate two monopile foundations for the 19 MW Borssele V offshore wind farm off the coast of the Netherlands.
The project will feature several novelties such as the use of slip joint technology on one of the monopiles to connect it to the transition piece. One foundation will be equipped with conical-shaped end pieces of the monopile and the transition piece. This connection, which Sif described as stacking coffee cups in a cupboard, will help save installation time offshore.
The connection has been applied successfully onshore but has only been used in offshore projects on a test basis.
The coating for the other monopile will be aluminum sprayed across most of the surface.
The site V in the Borssele wind farm zone was awarded in a tender to Two Towers BV, a consortium formed by Van Oord NV, Investri Offshore BV and Green Giraffe BV.
Borssele V will feature two MHI Vestas V164-9.5MW turbines, with grid connection scheduled for 2021.
