Seriti Resources and its renewable energy subsidiary, Seriti Green, have secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) for its 155 MW wind farm in Mpumalanga, marking the start of the construction of the project in South Africa.
In October 2021, Seriti has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eskom and Exxaro for the development of the project. The wind farm, which will be part of the 900 MW renewable energy cluster called Ummbila Emoyeni, will be financed by Standard Bank and RMB with a capex at ZAR4 billion (US$227.96 million).
The construction of the project with the financial closing is expected to happen in Q2 2023. The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment of South Africa has granted the project Environmental Authorisation, an important requirement for the construction. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to provide clean energy to approximately 165,000 average South African homes annually.
