rPlus Hydro, LLLP has announced the submission of its Final License Application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for the White Pine Pumped Storage project located in White Pine County, Nevada.
The power plant is expected to be the state's first pumped storage project, with a capacity of 1,000 MW, and will provide up to eight hours of energy storage at full output, which is equivalent to about an eighth of Nevada’s peak power demand on a hot summer day. It will support Nevada's clean energy goals and bring substantial economic benefits to the local community, with an investment of over US$2.5 billion in the state's energy infrastructure.
The FERC will now commence a rigorous environmental review and licensing process for the project, which could start construction as early as 2025. A hard copy of the final license application for the project is available for review by the public at the White Pine County Library in Ely, Nevada.
