Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions (DESS) has announced the opening of its largest solar power plant, the 250 MW Pisgah Ridge Solar project in Navarro County, Texas, USA.
Charles River Laboratories International Inc. has committed to a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for 102 MW of the project, which will address the entirety of the company's North American electric power load with clean, renewable energy by 2023. Meijer also signed a separate 15-year VPPA agreement for 83 MW of solar energy generated by the project.
The Pisgah Ridge Solar project is expected to provide renewable energy to over 50,000 households in Texas. The project's construction, development and operation created over 500 jobs in the region, including for local subcontractors and suppliers.
The commissioning of the solar farm brings Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions one step closer to its goal of generating a total of 8,000 MW of clean energy by 2025.
