GE Vernova announced that it will support the development of an end-to-end green hydrogen system that Duke Energy plans to build and operate at its DeBary plant, located in Volusia County, Florida, USA.

GE Vernova will facilitate the integration of the turbine with green hydrogen, which includes upgrading one of the four GE 7E gas turbines at the DeBary plant to accommodate significant volumes of hydrogen fuel blends. The DeBary Hydrogen Project is set to utilize Duke Energy's existing solar array for electrolyzers, generating green hydrogen stored on-site. This green hydrogen will then power the gas turbine, supporting periods of peak electricity demand with the flexibility to use up to 100% hydrogen fuel.

Upon completion in 2024, the converted 83 MW 7E gas turbine will operate on natural gas, liquid fuel, 100% hydrogen, or a blend of natural gas and hydrogen, providing the site with comprehensive fuel and operating flexibility while ensuring plant reliability. The DeBary power plant, situated just north of Orlando, comprises six GE 7B gas turbines and four GE 7E gas turbines. It includes a 74.5 MW solar power plant spanning nearly 200 football fields and a 692 MW gas power plant for reliable reserve power.
