The government of Queensland in Australia will help to deliver a 1.2 GW onshore wind farm in the Southeast of the state after facilitating a deal for the construction of the AUS$2 billion project (US$1.2 billion).
The Forest Wind project in the Wide Bay region of Queensland is set to become one of the largest onshore wind farms in the Southern hemisphere when it becomes operational.
The project is the result of facilitated negotiations by the Queensland government, which culminated in the creation of Forest Wind Holdings, a joint venture between CleanSight and investors Siemens Financial services.
Construction of the wind scheme could commence as early as the fourth quarter of 2020, subject to approvals. The project will provide enough power for more than 550,000 homes while creating up to 440 new jobs during the construction phase of the project.
