The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) declares Ahunan Electricity, Inc., a subsidiary of Prime Infrastructure Capital, as the Original Proponent for its offer to supply 500 MW of mid-merit power utilizing pumped storage hydropower (PSH) as an energy storage system.
Ahunan’s offer is subject to competitive challenge under the rules of the Department of Energy, and the company reserves the right to match any comparative proposals.
Ahunan nominated two PSH plants, either of which can supply the needed 500 MW energy under its offer. The first, the Ahunan Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plant Project, is undergoing preliminary development in Laguna, Philippines. The second is a PSH plant, the Olympia Violago Water & Power, Inc. (OVWPI) in Wawa, Rizal, which is under development. Ahunan has entered into an agreement to acquire OVWPI's majority stake.
