Dutch pension fund PGGM has increased its stake in the 367 MW Walney offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
The fund now owns 24.8% of the project having boosted its interest with the acquisition of 9.9% from the Ampere Equity Fund that is managed by DIF.
The Walney Offshore Wind Farm, operational since 2012, is located approximately 15km from the coastline of Walney Island in the north west to south-easterly direction covering an area of approximately 73 km2.
The project consists of Walney 1 and Walney 2 each comprising 51 Siemens wind turbines with a total capacity of 367 MW, enough electricity to power over 320,000 UK homes. It is expected to generate about 1,300 GWh/year of electricity, with a load factor of 43%.
Other investors in Walney are Orsted 50.1% and SSE 25.1%.
