The Parana State Environmental Institute (IAP) of Brazil has issued a preliminary license for the development of a 200 MW Parque Eolico Palmas dos Ventos wind complex project.
The BRL1 billion (US$268.84 million) wind complex project will be developed on a 16,000-hectare (39,536 acre) area in the municipality of Palmas and will be consist of eight wind parks. The project will be the first privately owned renewable generation complex in Parana and one of the three largest in the whole South of Brazil.
The preliminary license only constitutes the environmental feasibility of the projects and do not give the go-ahead for the start of construction works and ground interventions.
The project is owned by local energy firm Enerbios, part of the Enercons Group. The wind complex is also associated with Innovent and Brazilian firms Cia Ambiental de Curitiba and Ventos do Sul.
