Ørsted has partnered with ESB for the development of a 5 GW offshore wind portfolio and hydrogen projects in Ireland. The first offshore wind project will participate in the country's next offshore wind auction, ORESS 2.1, as part of Ireland's target of reaching 7 GW of offshore wind by 2030.
Both Ørsted and ESB will own 50% of the offshore wind development portfolio, with the first offshore wind projects expected to be up and running during the next Irish Offshore wind auction.
The partnership between the two energy companies is expected to provide the renewable energy needs of Ireland and comes at a time when the country is progressing towards decarbonisation. It would decrease the reliance on fossil fuels in the region, reduce carbon emissions, and help Ireland reach its renewable energy targets.
