Ormat Technologies Inc. has announced the commencement of commercial operations at the Shirk energy storage facility, an 80MW/320MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located in Visalia, California, USA.
The Shirk facility has secured capacity through a 15-year Resource Adequacy Purchase and Sale Agreement with the City of Riverside Public Utilities, strengthening grid reliability and contributing to California’s increasing need for flexible energy solutions. This project marks another important step in Ormat Technologies ongoing effort to grow a dependable and profitable energy storage portfolio.
The Shirk project is eligible for a 40% Investment Tax Credit (ITC), and the Company intends to realize these tax advantages through its hybrid tax equity partnership with Morgan Stanley Renewables, announced in May 2025. This arrangement helps finance and enhance the efficiency of Ormat Technologies' expanding energy storage portfolio.
