National Grid Renewables has announced the start of operation at its Wild Springs Solar Project (Wild Springs) in Pennington County, South Dakota, USA.

Wild Springs is a 128 MW solar installation within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). It has a 114 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Basin Electric Power Cooperative. The project is expected to generate about US$29.5 million in direct economic impact over its first 20 years, including US$12 million in new tax revenue. Additionally, National Grid Renewables plans to donate US$500,000 to the local New Underwood school district over the same period.

Wild Springs is expected to prevent 190,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which is comparable to taking approximately 42,000 cars off the road for a year. Additionally, the project will produce enough clean, locally sourced energy to meet the annual electrical needs of about 37,000 homes, totaling around 740,000 homes over its first 20 years of operation.
