NKT has successfully commissioned the 220 kV AC high-voltage cable system connecting the 309 MW Rentel wind farm to the Belgian shore. The wind farm is located in the North Sea, around 34km off the coast of Zeebrugge, north-west Belgium.
Delivered by NKT under a turnkey contract, the high-voltage cable system is now ready to transmit renewable energy from the Rentel offshore wind farm to the Belgian power grid. When in operation the offshore wind farm will provide green energy to 300,000 households supporting the national target of 13% of the power consumption to be covered by renewable energy by 2020.
NKT has designed, manufactured and installed the 40km extruded three-core 220 kV XLPE HVAC (alternating current) submarine cable system. The installation was finalized in 2018 after a successful offshore operation completed by the advanced cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria.
