The European Investment Bank (EIB) has disclosed that it approved an undisclosed amount of financing for the 488 MW Seamade offshore wind project on 17 July. The project comprises the construction of two offshore wind farms (previously being developed as separate projects known as SeaStar and Mermaid) located around 38 and 50 km from the coast of the Belgian province of West Flanders.
The project has been in development for many years, having been awarded concessions for the then-separate wind projects in 2012 but failing to agree subsidies with the Belgian government until October 2017. In March, Siemens Gamesa was selected to install 58 turbines at the two project sites.
The project is owned by a joint venture of Eneco, Engie and Otary, a consortium of eight Belgian companies operating in the offshore wind industry - Aspiravi, Deme, Elicio, Green Offshore, Power@Sea, Socofe, SRIW and Z-Kracht.
The SeaStar and Mermaid offshore wind projects, both located off the coast of the West Flanders province of Belgium, have been merged by their owners to form the Seamade project, which has a generatio...
