Neoen has given notice to proceed to battery storage manufacturer Nidec to begin construction of its 10 MW / 41 MWh Willstätt Battery in Willstätt in the Ortenau district of Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
Situated in Willstätt, within the Ortenau district of Baden-Württemberg, this will be the region’s first large-scale battery storage facility. Once commissioned, it will help smooth short-term spikes in electricity demand and stabilize frequency fluctuations, thereby supporting the reliability of the local power supply. The project is slated to become operational in 2027.
Following the Arneburg battery storage project in Saxony-Anhalt, for which Neoen signed a 30 MW / 78 MWh tolling agreement with Uniper earlier this year, the Willstätt battery marks Neoen’s second project in Germany. In addition, Neoen Germany is actively developing a substantial pipeline of 2 GW of projects from its offices in Karlsruhe and Hamburg.
