German mining and energy company Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft mbH (MIBRAG) has submitted its application to the Immission Control Authority of Leipzig for the development of 90 MW wind farm located in the Saxony state.
The Breunsdorf wind park will consist of 15 6-MW wind turbines that will be constructed on the recultivation area of the Vereinigtes Schleenhain opencast mine 30 kilometers south of Leipzig in eastern Germany. MIBRAG is expected to invest up to EUR100 million (US$109.27 million) in the project.
Once the approval is granted, the construction of the wind farm is set to begin in the third quarter of 2023. From 2024, the wind farm will supply electricity with an annual feed-in amount of around 205 gigawatt hours.
