Low Carbon Plans 500 MW Solar and Storage Park in Oxfordshire

Low Carbon is developing a proposed 500 MW West Oxfordshire Energy Park, in collaboration with local parish councils, communities and other stakeholders, in West Oxfordshire, UK. 

Low Carbon is proposing the development of the 500MW West Oxfordshire Energy Park, which would integrate solar photovoltaic generation with battery energy storage and the supporting electrical infrastructure. The proposed project would be situated on land north-west of Lechlade and south-west of Carterton, close to Langford and Little Faringdon. According to Low Carbon, the development could produce sufficient renewable electricity annually to meet the equivalent demand of around 145,000 UK homes, while potentially preventing up to 154,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

The proposed scheme will incorporate areas dedicated to environmental mitigation and enhancement, with its design being shaped by environmental surveys, technical studies and feedback from local stakeholders. Low Carbon is currently consulting with parish councils and other interested parties during the initial design phase, ahead of a public consultation scheduled for early 2027. As the project’s proposed generation capacity exceeds 100MW, the West Oxfordshire Energy Park qualifies as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and will be subject to a Development Consent Order (DCO) application submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.
