ESB has reached Final Investment Decision (FID) and completed execution of the principal construction contracts for the 96MW Chleansaid Wind Farm, located near Lairg in the Scottish Highlands.

The project is wholly owned and developed by ESB and represents its first wholly developed onshore wind project in Scotland. The wind farm will comprise 16 turbines with a total installed capacity of 96MW. It received planning consent in 2023 and has secured a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD), providing a long-term route to market for the electricity generated by the project. Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with commercial operations targeted for 2028.

ESB has appointed three key contractors for the project:

  • GE Vernova – supply of wind turbine generators and long-term service support.
  • Kirby Group – Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP).
  • Farrans Construction – Civil Balance of Plant (CBoP).

Chleansaid is the first project to enter construction from ESB's approximately 2GW pipeline of onshore wind opportunities under development across Scotland and Wales.
