Lightsource bp has secured a Contract for Difference from the UK Government for the Hett Moor Solar Farm project in County Durham, United Kingdom.
The Hett Moor Solar Farm project, developed by Lightsource bp, has been awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) under the UK Government’s Allocation Round 7 (AR7) renewables auction. This contract ensures that the project will supply stable, affordable, and domestically generated renewable electricity to the national grid under a long-term, government-supported agreement. The CfD scheme guarantees a fixed price for electricity, providing financial certainty for developers while protecting consumers from fluctuations in energy prices and encouraging investment in clean energy projects.
The project has undergone environmental assessments and incorporated feedback from local communities during the planning stage. It also includes biodiversity measures such as habitat creation, native planting, and long-term land management to enhance ecological value and ensure environmental sustainability. Once operational, the Hett Moor Solar Farm is expected to produce enough low-carbon electricity to power more than 16,000 homes, contributing significantly to the UK’s clean energy goals. The project is part of a wider effort to expand renewable energy capacity across the country and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Additionally, projects supported through the AR7 auction are expected to contribute substantial economic value, supporting local economies and helping accelerate the transition toward a low-carbon energy future.
