Vattenfall has confirmed that it has ordered 14 Vestas V136 4,500 KW turbines for the 63 MW Clashindarroch 2 wind farm near Huntly in Scotland.
The agreement includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines. Vestas will also provide towers manufactured with low-emission steel, marking the first onshore wind project for both companies to use this material. Incorporating the lower-carbon steel is expected to cut the towers’ total carbon footprint by 36%. The steel is made entirely from recycled scrap, melted in an electric arc furnace powered by wind energy at ArcelorMittal’s Industeel Charleroi plant in Belgium.
Clashindarroch 2 will feature 14 turbines and a 63 MW capacity, and is predicted to offset around 90,844 tonnes of CO2 each year. The wind farm will provide around £315,000 per year in community benefit funding, while first power is expected in summer 2027.
