The UK government has granted a development consent order (DCO) for the Outer Dowsing offshore wind farm located in the Southern North Sea, east of Grimsby, 54 km (33 miles) from the Lincolnshire Coast.
The approval allows the project to construct and operate an offshore wind farm with up to 100 turbines, along with the necessary supporting infrastructure. Electricity generated offshore will be transmitted through underground onshore cables from the landfall point near Anderby Marsh, north of Skegness, to a newly planned substation at Surfleet Marsh in South Lincolnshire. Once completed and operational, the wind farm will enhance the UK’s energy security by generating 1.5 GW of renewable electricity, enough to supply approximately 1.6 million homes, which is equivalent to about 80% of households in the East Midlands.
Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind is being developed by TotalEnergies, Corio Generation and affiliates, and Gulf Development. The project team will now continue working towards the commencement of construction. The developers claim the project has the potential for GBP2 billion (US$2.7 billion) of investment in the UK, with thousands of jobs.
