The Government of Kuwait has canceled the development plans for the Al-Dabdaba solar photovoltaic plant due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The 1.5 GW project which was to be carried out by the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) was supposed to enter commercial operation in February 2021 and would have provided about 15 percent of energy for the oil sector. The proposal was delayed due to government protocols.
The project aims to build a solar power plant within the Al-Shikaya Complex for Renewable Energy that is located about 100 km west of Kuwait City.
