Victoria’s largest solar plant has now started generating energy into the national grid. The 664-acre 112MW solar farm will be fully completed towards the end of this year but has already started generating power. The project is being developed by BayWa r.e. and is being constructed by Melbourne-based Beon Energy Solutions.
Once fully operational its 330,000 photovoltaic cells will generate enough power to supply 65,000 Australian homes.
A large part of the power generated by the Karadoc solar farm will be used by Carlton & United Breweries, following the signing of a 12-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) earlier this year.
The brewery, who has committed to source 100 per cent of its electricity from renewables, will draw 74,0000 MWh of solar energy from the plant once fully completed.
