Itochu has launched Senri Power Storage, a grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project with 11 MW output and 23 MWh energy capacity in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
Itochu has established partnerships with Osaka Gas and Tokyo Century Leasing to build and launch the project. As well as supplying the land, Osaka Gas will help to trade the battery system’s stored energy in power markets, drawing on its experience in the energy trading sector with conventional assets. Meanwhile, Tokyo Century Leasing will manage the business operations. Itochu will procure battery storage equipment and power conversion system (PCS) components from its own network of contacts, and will oversee the entire project from construction to maintenance.
The lithium-ion battery storage system is anticipated to begin construction in H1 of the 2023 fiscal year. It is expected to be operational by the 2025 fiscal year.
