Iberdrola has been awarded its first floating solar project in France in a tender by the Alsatian municipality of Kurtzenhouse. The company will build the 25 MW plant on the basin of the municipally-owned Bischwiller gravel quarry.
This gravel pit extracts and markets alluvial sand and gravel. Iberdrola will examine the presence of these activities during the building and operation phases and assure their continuing operation.
The floating solar plant will occupy roughly 13.5 hectares of the available 28 hectares at the location. Iberdrola is now conducting environmental and technical assessments for the project, which are due to be completed in the spring of 2024. Commissioning of the solar arrays is anticipated by the end of summer 2026.
