Inter-array Cable Installation completed for 315 MW Offshore Wind Farm in Germany
Van Oord has completed the installation of inter-array cables for Iberdrola's 315 MW Windanker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
The campaign involved the installation of 21 inter-array cables and the laying and burial of 28 km of cable. The work was completed on schedule and recorded 360,000 working hours without any lost-time incidents.
With an investment of more than EUR1 billion (US$1.15 billion), the wind project aims to supply clean energy to approximately 315,000 households and is expected to begin operations in the last quarter of 2026. At the end of 2024, Iberdrola brought the Japanese utility Kansai into this offshore wind project. The Japanese company co-invested in the wind farm, acquiring a 49% stake, while Iberdrola retained control with the remaining 51%.
It will be Iberdrola's third major offshore project in Germany, alongside Wikinger and Baltic Eagle, reinforcing its commitment to European renewable energy expansion. Together, the three projects will have a combined capacity of 1.1 GW
