Iberdrola and Exiom have formed a partnership to establish the production of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels in Spain. They will set up the first large-scale PV manufacturing plant in the country and one of the first in Europe in the Asturian municipality of Langreo.
The plant is expected to begin operations in 2023, with an initial investment of EUR20 million (US$21.2 million). The partnership aims to achieve competitive manufacturing of solar panels at the EU level and potentially expand the collaboration to other components of the photovoltaic value chain.
Iberdrola and Exiom have engaged with the Government of the Principality of Asturias to ensure the project's positive impact on the region. The partnership represents a step towards the growth of clean energy manufacturing in Europe, further promoting the transition to a sustainable energy system.
