ACCIONA Energía and Plug Power have proposed a joint project to build an industrial-scale, green hydrogen production plant in Rocaforte, Sangüesa, Navarra, Spain. The Valle H2V Navarra project involves the construction of a 25 MW electrolyzer that will be powered by hybrid renewable energy from a 25 MW photovoltaic plant and a 24 MW wind farm.
The hydrogen facility, currently in the development stage, has a budget of EUR87 million and aims to produce 3,880 tons of green hydrogen per year. The output will be primarily used for consumption by the main energy-intensive industries in the area, such as paper, glass, steel, food, and automotive, contributing to their decarbonization and reducing their CO2 emissions. The remaining 10% of the green hydrogen produced will be used for the transport sector through the installation of a hydrogen station at the same location.
Valle H2V Navarra envisions the possibility to double the initially planned power of electrolysis in the future, depending on the evolution of demand.
