Iberdrola has commissioned the 40 MW Arañuelo III photovoltaic plant, Spain's first photovoltaic project to feature a storage system, a 3 MW battery with 9 MWh of storage capacity.
Installed in the municipality of Romangordo (Cáceres, Extremadura), the PV plant is part of the Campo Arañuelo complex located in the Almaraz district, and consists of the Arañuelo I, II and III photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 143 MW. Iberdrola has invested EUR80 million (US$93.8 million) to develop the photovoltaic complex, which has helped to stimulate industry and job opportunities in the region.
The Campo Arañuelo complex is now producing clean energy, enough to supply the equivalent of 65,000 homes a year. It will prevent the release of 41,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere annually.
