New South Wales-based Greenspot Wallerawang Pty Ltd has filed a planning permit for the development of the 500 MW/1000 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project located at the former coal-fired complex near Lithgow.
The project would require an estimated investment of AUD 400 million (US$289.32 million). Named as 'Wallerawang 9' battery facility, the project is expected to be operational by 2024 with a target start of construction in early 2022.
The Department of Planning, Industry, and Environment of New South Wales will review the filed application.
