Hitachi Energy has been awarded the contract to deliver components for the planned Darwin-Katherine battery energy storage system (DK BESS) in Australia's Northern Territory.
The 35-MVA energy storage facility will be equipped with Hitachi Energy's virtual synchronous machine technology. The project will be built within the site of the Channel Island gas-fired power station to support the grid stability in the cities of Darwin and the town of Katherine.
The project is expected to be operational by 2023.
