Alinta Energy has started the commercial operation of its 60 MW Chichester Hub solar photovoltaic project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The 60 MW Chichester Hub solar photovoltaic facility has started the supply of energy to the Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak mines of iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group Ltd.
The project consists of 160,000 panels installed on about 120 hectares of area. It has secured AUD114 million (US$81 million) in government funding through the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) under its Advancing Renewables program.
