Greenalia has secured the administrative authorization for the construction of the 27 MW O Cerqueiral wind project in Galicia, northwest Spain. The wind farm will consist of six wind turbines, each with a hub height of 111 m and a rotor diameter of 136 m. It will be located in the municipalities of Cabana de Bergantiños, Coristanco, and Santa Comba within A Coruña. The estimated budget for the project stands at over EUR19.5 million (US$21.4 million).

The O Cerqueiral wind farm is expected to generate around 88,758 MWh/year, significantly contributing to reducing CO2 emissions. According to the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of this wind farm issued in November 2022, it is located outside protected areas and priority areas for birdlife. No protected species were found during the previous fieldwork, as verified by the report of the DX of Natural Heritage. Additionally, measures such as the implementation of technologies to reduce the impact of collisions and the painting of one blade of each wind turbine will be incorporated to meet environmental concerns.

The construction and operational infrastructures for the O Cerqueiral wind farm will be connected to the Mesón do Vento 220 kV substation. The agreement that was reached will reduce possible new impacts from the evacuation lines resulting from other projects. During the first year of the wind farm's life, a monitoring program will be implemented to study the presence of the Galician wolf, its habits, and the number of pups, among other aspects, to have a better understanding of its presence in the area.
