KBR Inc. has been selected by BP Plc as the primary integrated project management contractor across its global hydrogen project portfolio. KBR's Integrated Project Management Team will jointly contribute to the front-end, optimization, and execution of project phases and provide management support during the construction, commissioning, and startup phases. BP has already declared that it aims to build a hydrogen portfolio that can mostly produce green hydrogen and can generate up to 700,000 tonnes per year by 2030.
BP's project to establish a hydrogen cluster in Spain's Valencia Region, with the aim of producing up to 2 GW of electrolysis capacity by the end of the decade, was announced at the end of February.
KBR's appointment marks another significant move by the energy company toward its hydrogen portfolio target. The company views hydrogen as a critical energy source for a low-carbon future and is one of the few major oil companies committed to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
Given the rapid global transition from fossil fuels and the growing demand for energy, the announcement is focused on a responsible approach to transforming the energy landscape through clean and renewable energy sources.
