Globeleq, an Africa-focused independent power producer (IPP), has started the commercial operation of its 40 MW/52 MWp solar photovoltaic project in Kenya.
The project has contracted the energy produced to the national distribution utility Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Globeleq has partnered with Africa Energy Development Corporation (AEDC) to develop the project in Langobaya, Malindi District. A 220-kV Weru substation connects the project to the national grid.
