ESB has announced that Voltalia will be the main engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the development of the 57 MW Middleton House Solar Farm, located to the northeast of Lanesborough, Ireland.

Middleton House Solar Farm is situated in western Co Longford, approximately 2.4km south of Cloondara and 2.5km northwest of Killashee. The farm spans the townlands of Middleton, Ballycore, Treanboy, Ballynakill, and Bunacloy. It features rows of solar panels mounted on galvanized metal frames, facing south, with a height of 2.5 to 3 m above ground. A new 5.7 km cable route will connect the farm to a transformer compound at the former Lough Ree Power Site and then to the electricity grid at the Lanesborough 110 kV substation. Proposed Development Timeline:

  • Q4 2023: Construction begins.
  • Q4 2023 - Spring 2024: Enabling works to provide site access.
  • Spring 2025: Commissioning and project becomes operational.

The Middleton House Solar Farm project will establish a Community Benefit Fund, offering grants to local organizations. The fund aims to enhance the economic, environmental, social, and cultural well-being of the local community once the solar farm is operational.
