EDF Renewables reduced number of turbines for 1.3 GW Offshore wind farm in Ireland

Fred. Olsen Seawind and EDF Renewables have confirmed a 25% reduction in the number of turbines required to deliver the 1,300 MW Codling offshore wind farm in Ireland.

The project will now feature a maximum of 75 wind turbines, instead of the previously anticipated 100 units. The minimum proposed turbine tip height has also been set at 288 m or a maximum of 314 m.

The project, which will be located approximately 13 to 22 km off the Co. Wicklow coast between Greystones and Wicklow Town is a 50/50 joint venture between Fred. Olsen Seawind and EDF Renewables. The Offshore wind farm will have the capacity to generate enough energy to power over 1 million Irish homes and offset up to 1.7 million tonnes of CO2 every year.

When operational, it will help Ireland meet over 26% of its 2030 grid connected offshore wind targets while also helping the country achieve its target of generating 80% of its electricity from renewable energy by the same year.
