Ørsted has taken the final investment decision (FID) on the 43.2 MW Farranrory Onshore Wind Farm in Tipperary, on the island of Ireland.
The wind farm will consist of nine wind turbines and have the capacity to generate enough energy to power an equivalent of 25,000 Irish homes annually.
The project received the FID after placing a winning bid in September 2023's Renewable Electricity Support Scheme 3 (RESS 3) auction held by the Irish government. The average striking price for the RESS 3 auction was EUR100.47 (US$109.25) per MWh, in line with comparable pricing structures in other European markets.
With this investment decision, the project will also install the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the wind farm connecting to the grid and is expected to be fully operational by the summer of 2026.
