E.ON has announced that Arkona offshore wind farm, comprised of 60 6 MW wind turbines in the German Baltic Sea, is fully built. In partnership with Norwegian energy company Equinor, E.ON completed the installation of the wind turbines in record time. The entire construction phase, including loading, weather downtimes and technical maintenance, lasted for three months.
The Arkona wind farm has been producing renewable energy since September 2018 and is scheduled to commence full commercial operations in 2019. The investment volume amounts to EUR1.2 billion (US$1.37 billion).
The project is located 35 kilometers northeast of the island of Rügen. With an installed capacity of 385 MW, the wind farm can theoretically supply around 400,000 households with renewable energy, saving up to 1.2 million tons of CO2 annually compared to conventionally generated electricity.
