Equatorial Energia has completed the acquisition of the Piauí Energy Company (Cepisa) in the first auction of privatization of distributors controlled by Eletrobras, held at the headquarters of B3 (formerly BM & F Bovespa) in São Paulo.

The auction of Cepisa was treated by the government as the key to giving a positive signal to the market and shareholders of Eletrobras. Equatorial Energia was the only one bidding at the auction.

The CEPISA was established in 1962, when it was called Centrais Elétricas do Piauí S.A. The concessionaire is responsible for serving 224 municipalities in a physical area covering the entire state of Piauí. The company has 1.17 million consumers.
