Elecnor has won the contract to build a wind farm in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region of Chile, around 20 km north of the city of Punta Arenas (Cabo Negro), for the Vientos Patagónicos SpA power company formed by the Chilean state-owned firm ENAP and Pecket Energy S.A.
The Vientos Patagónicos wind farm entails investment of around US$22 million and includes the installation of three 69-metre turbines, each with a capacity of 3.45 MW, which will add over 10 MW to the Regional Electricity System. The turbines, in line with industry standards, will have an estimated lifespan of 20 years.
Construction of the plant, on an EPC basis, will commence in the first quarter of 2019 and is slated to conclude at the end of the same year.
The project also has the backing of the Regional Government, which will contribute approximately US$5 million via the National Regional Development Fund (FNDR).
