EIG Global Energy Partners, in partnership with Abengoa and Acciona, has installed a solar receiver for the 210 MW Cerro Dominador solar complex in the Atacama desert in Antofagasta, Chile.
The 2,300 tons solar receiver is located at 220 meters high at the central tower of the complex, Lifted by using 16 hydraulic industrial jacks and surrounded by 10,600 heliostats pointing at the receiver. The function of the receiver is to concentrate the solar radiation reflected from the heliostats that are located around the 250-meter tower and, thus, heat the salts that will be stored to generate electricity.
The Cerro Dominador complex is comprised of a 110 MW solar thermal plant that uses tower technology, a 100 MW photovoltaic plant with 392,000 solar panels and a thermal storage system that can store energy for 17.5 hours.
Abengoa and Acciona are in charge of the construction of the project.
