Chilean power generator Colbun has applied for environmental approval to build the 719 MW/788 MWp Inti Pacha solar photovoltaic project in the Antofagasta region in Chile.
According to Chile’s environmental evaluation service (SEA), the proposed project would be built in the municipality of María Elena, Tocopilla province.
The power plant would be built in three different units – Inti Pacha 1 (IP1), Inti Pacha 2 (IP2) and Inti Pacha 3 (IP3). The planned investment for the project has been estimated at US$788 million.
The plant is designed to provide 719 MWn of nominal power to the National Electric System (SEN) of Chile, supplying the growing energy demand presented by the region and the country.
Colbun is one of the four electricity companies that make up the Chilean Generators Association together with the French Engie, the Italian Enel and the American AES Gener. The association's companies agreed not to build more coal plants and gradually close existing ones. The companies plan to replace coal plants with clean sources. Colbun is planning to build about 4 GW of renewable power by 2030.
Colbún in Chile has submitted the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for its Horizonte onshore wind project, located approximately 130 km from Talal in Antofagasta region. The project involves the development of a 980 MW wind park.
