Sociedad Austral de Electricidad Sociedad Anonima (SAESA) has signed an eight-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to procure up to 600 GWh per year from the 210 MW Cerro Dominador solar complex in Antofagasta, Chile. The project will start delivering its output by August 1, 2020, and will run until December 31, 2028.
Located at the Atacama Desert, the project consists of a 100 MW PV park, a 250m central high tower, and 10,600 heliostats to produce 110 MW of CSP covering a surface area of more than 700 hectares.
The project also features a thermal storage system that can store energy for 17.5 hours. It is expected to generate up to 600 GWh per year.
The Cerro Dominador solar complex has been in commercial operation since February 2018. In December 2019, Copec signed a previous five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Cerro Dominador project.
