AES Gener to invest US$750m in renewable hybrid project in Chile

AES Gener has filed an Environmental Assessment System (EIS) for its Parque Terra Energía Renovable project in Chile. The 863 MW proposal is a combination of photovoltaic, wind, and battery energy.

The hybrid generation project will be located in the municipality of Taltal, in the Antofagasta Region. It will be composed of a wind farm which will have an installed power of 350 MW and will be made up of 50 wind turbines of 7 MW each; and a photovoltaic park which is planned to have an installed power of 513 MW and will be made up of more than 1 million bifacial panels. The project will also be equipped with two energy storage banks made up of lithium batteries.

The overall scheme considers an investment of US$750 million and will generate 620 direct jobs during its construction.

AES Gener CEO Ricardo Falú said: “With this hybrid initiative, combining three technologies, we want to ratify our commitment to Chile and its sustainable recovery. Parque Terra Energía Renovable is part of our Greentegra strategy, which aims to accelerate the decarbonization of the energy matrix by incorporating innovative and competitive renewable energies.”

It is estimated that Parque Terra Energía Renovable could start its construction by 2022.
