Endesa's renewable energy subsidiary, Enel Green Power España (EGPE), started construction of its 35 MW Primoral wind farm, located in Villamayor de Gállego, Zaragoza, which will involve an investment of around EUR34 million (US$37.5 million).
The new facility is supported by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed last year between Endesa and the banking group BBVA. The Primoral wind farm will cover 30% of the energy needs of BBVA's corporate buildings and branch network in Spain, while Endesa will provide the remaining 70% through green certificates.
The new wind farm, which will be operated and maintained by EGPE, is expected to come online by the end of 2019 and will consist of 10 wind turbines with a capacity of 3.4 MW each. Once fully operational, Primoral will be able to generate around 108 GWh per year, avoiding the annual emission of approximately 75,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
