Aena SME SA has awarded the construction and commissioning of the 7.5 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport to the consortium between Instalaciones y Servicios para el Ahorro y la Eficiencia SA (INSAE) and Control y Montajes Industriales SA (CYMI).

The joint venture of INSAE-CYMI presented a bid of EUR8.2 million (US$9 million) which is the lowest offer in the launched tender. The construction works are expected to be completed in 39 months.

The solar PV system will be built on a 22 hectares (54.4 acres) of land area at the Madrid airport. It is expected to generate upto 11.7 GWh, enough to offset up to 16% energy requirement of the terminals 1, 2 and 3.
