The board of directors of Aena, which administers Madrid's Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, has approved plans for a 120 MW/142.42 MWp solar PV park within the vicinity.
Construcciones San Jose, a company that specializes in engineering, procurement and construction, has been awarded a EUR99.1 million (US$107.6 million) contract for the project. The construction is expected to be completed in 50 months.
The installation process will involve more than 235,000 PV modules distributed in clusters on different plots within the airport. The solar power system will be capable of generating 212 GWh per year once the project is operational.
