Four years ahead of schedule, the 29.4 MW expansion to the Delfina wind farm located in Campo Formoso, municipality of Bahia, north-east Brazil, was connected to the grid. The Delfina wind farm now boasts a total installed capacity of 209.4 MW. The expansion work was started in October 2018 and funded by a US$40 million investment.
The expansion of Delfina is entering service a full four years ahead of its delivery date, determined by the tender issued in 2017 by Brazil’s federal government through its national energy authority ANEEL.
The production capacity of 800 GWh, the first section of Delfina wind farm went online in 2017. The new 29.4 MW sector is expected to produce an annual production of over 160 GWh.
The Delfina wind farm will generate a total of 960 GWh worth of renewable power each year, offsetting the emission of over 580,000 tons of CO2.
From 2019 to 2022, energy generated by Delfina’s expansion will be sold on the spot market. Starting from 2023, the wind farm’s output will be regulated by a 20-year contract which provides for the sale of specified volumes of energy to a pool of distribution companies operating in Brazil’s regulated market.
